Jack the Savage capped off his 2022 with a feisty run under the Wolverhampton lights on Saturday, a run that did much to warrant his transition from bumper winner at Worcester to prospective flat handicapper.
Jack is affectionately known as the pocket rocket at home, he's small in stature, big in heart. He's a horse that we'd struggle to place over hurdles carrying any sort of weight on his back so a career on the flat it is.
Given a canny ride from Federick Larson he was well placed throughout and within striking distance when the strong pace lifted on the home bend, eventually finishing a good-value 3rd to the market principles.
He wasn't perfect going into the stalls but plenty better than in his first run at Lingfield, one more run for a mark then staying handicaps looks the name of the game.
